One of my new year resolutions was to try out new techniques this year. It's not that I'm not willing to learn new things, just that I prefer to learn by watching and being shown step by step how to do it.
So imagine how thrilled I was to come across May Flaum's new Big Picture Classes offering 'The Curious Scrapbooker's Field Guide'. In it, she literally is taking her participant's through an A to Z of techniques - each having their own video. It seemed perfect for me. It covered a variety of techniques I either have never done, or only use in a very limited way.
And then I looked at the price tag - US$89 - and my heart sank. Don't get me wrong, I think the price is very reasonable for a twelve week course. But no matter how reasonable, our family budget just can't stretch that far right at this precise point in time (we had significant car repairs, car registration and MOT, and Christmas all hit at once).
Then, because I always try and look for solutions to problems, I figured I could put aside some money over a couple of months and do the course the next time it was offered - only to read that this would be the last time this course would be offered live.
So I let it go. No point in pining for something you can't have.
I'm sure you have a whole raft of blogs you follow on either a regular or semi-regular basis. One of mine is Lisa Dickinson's blog. I love that she covers more than just scrapbooking / crafting. And I really love her scrapbooking style - it's clean and simple, yet beautifully composed. She is the kind on scrapbooker I would like to become when I grow up.
Anyway, on one of her posts, she offers as a giveaway a place on the Field Guide course to one lucky commenter on her blog post. Well, you have to be in to win, I think to myself, and leave a post. I don't think I've ever been selected as a blog winner before, and honestly, didn't think I would be here either.
But I was.
I am the lucky winner of the free spot on the Field Guide class by May Flaum. I feel so blessed - like God just gave me a hug and told me all over again that He loves me.
So now I am working my way through all of May's video's in preparation for her class which begins on 31 January 2013.
